
Matthew Blong

Matthew Blong draws upon a remarkably diverse network and skillset in supporting the firm as strategic advisor on business strategy and government relations issues. A native of Washington, D.C., Matthew began his professional career as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State. He served two tours overseas, in Africa and Eastern Europe, and one Washington-based tour as State’s key point of contact for Arabian Peninsula Affairs.
While he maintains contacts within the International affairs community, he also has extensive private sector experience. As an expert in Russian politics and business, he was the recipient of the prestigious Alfa Fellowship, which permitted him to work in Russia, where he developed government relations and business development strategies for a major American specialty chemicals company. Later he built out a fully-fledged government relations strategy for a Russian telecommunications company based in the Netherlands.
Matthew holds a B.A. in Linguistics from Yale University and an MBA from Thunderbird School fo Global Management at Arizona State University. He speaks Russian, French, German, Latvian and some Arabic.
